Success? ill call it Donte’s Pur Pur

for about 6 months I have been messing around with glaze bases, Both my own and someone else’s. I wish I could go faster but I have one kiln to really test in as the other cannot produce the type of heat I need. I have been on the search for a hyacinth type glaze. Something with rutile and little hints of purple or purple that changes based on texture. so i took my own base and added rutile at 1,2,3,4% to find the right about of rutile. This picture is my base glaze with 4% rutile.

I then ramped up manganese dioxide (with the rutile at 4%) by 1,2,3,4, ect

pic 2 - 2%

pic 3- 4%

pic 4- 6%

I finally decided on 4% rutile and 6% manganese dioxide with my translucent base. This glaze is called Pur Pur Rain (on account of it looking like purple rain)

here is the glazy recipe to Donte’s Pur Pur rain.

I will be doing tests on this recipe to see if I can make another glaze from the same base. I have a hunch that this glaze would be great at 7% rutile and 4 or 3 % manganese dioxide.
